Tricounty Map – 3 (John Smith Sr, John Smith Jr, John Adams, Reuben Johnston)

On 1 June 1774 William Ward of Johnston County deeded 100A to John Adams (JoCo H1:95) for 20£ proc.

On 12 May 1775 John Smith Sr of Bladen County deeded his 417A tract of land to his son John Smith Jr (JoCo H1:243) for 30£ proc. The deed was witnessed by Samuel Smith, Brittain Smith and Felps Smith. This deed as well as the deed from Jesse Page to John Smith Sr reads with the same boundaries as the original grant to Page. It does not account for the 100A sold off on the NE corner. In the Page to Smith deed the total acreage was updated correctly. However, in this deed from Smith to Smith the acreage is reported as 470 which at face value appears to be incorrect.

Of those who witnessed the deed, Samuel Smith is likely John Smith Jr’s brother and Brittain is the son of John Smith Jr. As for Felps Smith, he remains a mystery for the time being.

On 1 June 1775 John Smith Jr of Johnston County deeded 100A of his 417A tract to Reuben Johnston (JoCo H1:251) for 15£ proc. The deed was witnessed by William Wootten, Brittain Smith, and William Ward.
