Samuel Smith Jr’s Will shows the following dispersion of land
” …. I give to my son Samuel Smith all of the lands I own on the north side of Neuse River which lies above or on the west side of the great Branch to him & his heirs forever …. ”
” …. I give to my sons John McKinnie & Larkin Smith all the lands I own on the south side of Neuse River to be equally divided between them two them and their heirs forever …. ”
This should be all the land on the south side of Neuse equaling about 1,780 acres of land
” …. I give to my son Alvan Smith the lands and plantation adjoining where on I now live except as before excepted to him and his heirs forever reserving to my wife Zilpha (Blackman) Smith the use of the plantation and improvements during her natural life … ”
This should be most of the land that was originally patented and bought by Samuel Smith Sr on Middle Creek in the vicinity of Cow Branch and Beaver Dam Branch.
The LW&T was witnessed by E. Smith (Edwin Smith – oldest son) and Henry Jones (daughter Salley Smith’s husband).

In reading the inventory of the estate of Col Samuel Smith dec’d below are a couple of items to list that warrant further research to determine how these things evolve the Smith tree
- Debt note on Israel Folsom & William Bryan for £66.9.4 due 18th Aug 1784. (Is Israel the husband of his daughter Edith Smith or Edith’s son?)
- Debt note on Richard McKinnie due 25 Jan 1791 (is this kin to Samuel Jr’s daughters (Zilphia) husband (Robert McKinnie)?)
- Debt note on Roland & James Young due 7th Nov 1785 (is this Young associated to Eliza Young wife of John Y Young (Eliza is provided land in 1827 from land of John McKinnie Smith dec’d). Is Eliza Samuel Jr’s granddaughter?)
- Debt note on William Wall (is this the same Wall that is associated with John Smith Sr?)
- Sell of 2 books, Eastern Anecdotes & Irish Bull to Robert Helme (who is Helme and is he the same Robert H Helme who was the highest bidder during a sheriff sale of Smith land on the south side of Neuse River?)
- Sell of 1 Bay Horse (Ball) to Benjamin Smith (who is Benjamin Smith?)
- Sell of 10 barrels corn and 10 barrels short corn to John Smith (short) (who is John Smith (short)? I believe I seen that name on a patent.)
- Sell of multiple items to Rueben Sanders (he should be the husband of Samuel Jr’s daughter Karen Smith)
