Samuel Smith Jr – Johnston – 1779 – 640A (2X)

Samuel Smith Jr received two patents in 1779 adjoining the lands that were deeded to him by his father.

“…. granted to Samuel Smith six hundred and forty acres of land in Johnston County on the sough side of Neuse River on the Poplar Branch. Beginning at a small hickory in John Braddy’s line said Smith’s corner runs thence along said Braddy’s line  …. to a stake in James Stallin’s corner thence along his line …. red oak his other corner in John Smith’s line ….to a stake in Robert Whittenton’s line …. his other corner on the Cypress prong of the Poplar Branch ….

The second patent, “…. granted to Samuel Smith six hundred and forty acres of land in Johnston County on the south side of Neuse River. Beginning at a pine in John Vinson’s line near his own corner and Parkers Branch runs thence along said Vinson’s line by his corner …. a small hickory in John Brady’s line thence along his lines ….to his corner in James Butlers line ….”

Below is the warrant for the second 640A parcel (adjoining John Vinson’s land) that shows Samuel Smith Jr as the requester of the warrant. Interestingly, this warrant is signed by Needham Bryan, who is Samuel Jr’s fathers (Samuel Sr) brothers (John Smith Sr) daughters (Nancy Ann Smith) husband.
